Abstract

Environmental education is crucial for equipping future generations with the knowledge and skills to address the escalating environmental challenges of the 21st century. Integrating environmental education into school curriculums not only promotes ecological awareness but also fosters critical thinking, problemsolving, and responsible citizenship. This article examines the importance of embedding environmental education in formal education systems, exploring pedagogical strategies, curriculum development, and the benefits for both students and society. It also addresses the barriers to implementation, such as curriculum overload and lack of resources, while highlighting successful case studies where environmental education has been effectively incorporated. Recommendations for educators and policymakers are provided to ensure that environmental literacy becomes a key component of school curricula worldwide
